Back when my friends played with Tonka Trucks and Transformer action figures, I was in the kitchen accomplishing extraordinary culinary feats with crispy burned edges and too much salt — inspired by The Galloping Gourmet, The Frugal Gourmet and The French Chef with Julia Child.

Who would have thought my childhood obsession for food and travel would become an ever-evolving career. I have published articles, presented at conferences, taught as an adjunct professor, owned a food tour business, and promoted destinations across the globe.

In 2003, I received a B.S. in Hospitality and Tourism Management from Grand Valley State University. I went on to earn a Masters in Food Studies from Chatham University for my work in culinary tourism development in 2012.

I love what I do.

A note about my food tours: I recently relocated to the Washington DC area and no longer offer tours in Pittsburgh. Stay in touch as I will be offering tours in the DC area in 2019.

    My name is Todd Caldwell and I live in Pittsburgh. I am outreaching to you after I saw comments on Food Guy Adventures which were all very good. I have been in the food industry for a little more than 15 years, including culinary school, opening the boh of a restaurant in Lawrenceville, managed a juicing company, and even a smaller stint at a local country club. I also have a weird love relationship with Pittsburgh. History and now the food is really interesting. I have lived here all but one year of my life. I am in between passionate and obsessed with food, including the art of it and the people behind it.

    I was wondering if you could tell me how you got into doing food tours in Pittsburgh and a bit about that. I know a whole lot about Pittsburgh and its food scene and hopefully at some point can use that information for good and show people….especially about a lot of the places that are gone now.

    I am not sure if you wanted to give me advice, or anything. I currently work for UPMC Health Plan during the week specifically so I would be able to buy a house and I am just a few weeks away from closing. I just want to do something meaningful with food here in Pittsburgh, which hopefully includes people.

    No matter if you will reach out back to me or not, it seems from a lot of the comments about Food Guy Adventures, that your tours meant a lot to people. I hope you are doing well in DC.
